چکیده

A boy of seven years was brought to the hospital after a fall from his bicycle. His companion, whom he had taken as a pillion rider, fell over him from behind when the incident occurred. Examination showed that the right hip was acutely flexed, the thigh touching the anterior abdominal wall. The thigh was not abducted, adducted or rotated. The knee was fully flexed and the whole limb was supported by the patient’s two hands. The greater trochanter was unduly prominent. Movements of the hip were almost absent because of extreme pain. A radiograph showed the head of the femur occupying a position below the acetabulum (Fig. I). The dislocation was reduced about an hour and a half after the injury by applying traction and medial rotation under general anaesthesia. Subsequent radiographs showed satisfactory red uction . Russell traction was applied for six weeks and then he was allowed up on crutches in a hip spica. The total duration of nonweight-bearing was three months. At the end of this period he had full hip movements, no discomfort and normal radiographs. Six months after injury the hip was normal clinically and radiologically. Comment-Certain features of this dislocation which are not seen in the classical anterior, posterior or central dislocations are worth noting. Firstly, the clinical appearance of the hip was very striking: it was acutely flexed and showed undue prominence of the greater trochanter. Secondly, the head of the femur was displaced below the acetabulum. Thirdly, even under general anaesthesia the hip could not be extended more than 60 degrees from its position of acute flexion. The head of the femur could not be lifted into the acetabulum. Traction and lateral rotation also failed to reduce the dislocation, but traction and medial rotation achieved reduction with ease.

An Unusual Traumatic Presentation: Luxatio Erecta Humeri and Concomitant Hip Dislocation

Introduction. Inferior dislocation of the glenohumeral joint, known as luxatio erecta humeri, and posterior hip dislocation are both rare presentations in the emergency department. The most common aetiology is falling for luxatio erecta humeri. The aim of this manuscript was to present a unique case in terms of luxatio erecta humeri, which has a different aetiology, treatment method, and concom...

Results of treatment of luxatio erecta (inferior shoulder dislocation).

HYPOTHESIS Traumatic inferior shoulder dislocation (luxatio erecta) injuries are rare, comprising less than 0.5% of all shoulder dislocations. Few cases have been reported, and the outcome of treatment has been ill defined. MATERIALS AND METHODS Between 1968 and 2000, 18 patients (20 shoulders) with luxatio erecta were evaluated at our institution. Two patients (2 shoulders) were lost to foll...

Rare Inferior Shoulder Dislocation (Luxatio Erecta)

Although shoulder dislocations have been seen very frequently, inferior dislocation of shoulder constitutes only 0.5% of all shoulder dislocations. We share our 4 patients with luxatio erecta and present their last clinical control. 2 male and 2 female Caucasian patients were diagnosed as luxatio erecta. Patients' ages were 78, 62, 65, and 76. All patients' reduction was done by traction-abduct...

Following resuscitation, computed tomography confirmed the clinica...

Luxatio Erecta Complicated By Anterior Shoulder Dislocation During Reduction

Luxatio erecta humeri is an uncommon form of glenohumeral dislocation, resulting in the inferior displacement of the humeral head. Treatment with traction-counter traction techniques is usually successful in reducing most cases. We describe an unusual complication of this condition where initial reduction attempts of a luxatio erecta humeri repositioned the shoulder to an anterior dislocation p...
